Is it illegal to mess with a teachers email account?

Ok, well some friends in my class noticed that our teachers Gmail was opened, so they went and sent a stupid email to someone on there, and then changed the password to it, is that illegal? Can they actually get into trouble?

Is it illegal to mess with a teachers email account?
lol your friends must have been really bored to be doing that during class :P

Technically it's illegal to use anyone's email or personal account without them knowing, but in your case, unless it was like a business or a school's email/server whatever, you're not in any real trouble. Just tell her soon before she goes and figures it out and doesn't know what's going on.
Reply:Is it their school or personal email?

yes it can get them in to trouble. If it's their school email, it can also get your expelled. If it's their personal, there isn't too much they can do.
Reply:Delete the email you sent from the 'sent' folder and also from the 'trash' folder after you've deleted it.

Then change the password back if you can...or just leave it alone. There's no proof you did this?
Reply:Enough trouble to get up to 30 years prison.
Reply:Yes they can get into trouble.
